Could be, I leave this to our kernel guru.

OK, then I reassign this to the kernel, but I'm afraid you have to live with the
current workaround for a while.

Yes, just add the module to /etc/hotplug/blacklist with:

  echo ehci_hcd | sudo tee -a /etc/hotplug/blacklist
