could you please edit ~/.xscreensaver (or for a systemwide setting
/etc/X11/app-defaults/XScreenSaver ) and change the line reading:
*newLoginCommand:       gdmflexiserver -l
to
*newLoginCommand:       gdmflexiserver -s

and check if this brings the desired behavior to you ?
