I've tracked that to an interpolation change of libgnomecanvas for GNOME 2.12.
This upload fixes the issue:

 libgnomecanvas (2.12.0-0ubuntu2) breezy; urgency=low
 .
   * debian/patches/gdmslownessfix.patch:
     - undo the upstream (GNOME: #129891) interpolation change,
       fix the gdm slowness (Ubuntu: #15373).
