Summary: nautilus won't display thumbnails for large jpegs
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: nautilus
        AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: mgmiller at optonline.net
         QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

Nautilus fails to display a thumbnail image in filebrowser if the jpeg size is
larger than 3 MB. Deleting files from .thumbnails forcing a re-read does not
resolve the problem. If the image size is close to 3 MB (for example 2.7 MB),
the thumbnail may start to draw and fail showing a partial image and a grey
area. If this image is then moved into another folder, it will create the
thumbnail. All image software works correctly with the large images and gthumb
will show thumbnails. This behaviour is exhibited if the image is on sdcard
memory or saved to the file system. Thumnbnails work correctly in windows XP
pro SP2 for affected files. All files with the problem were created with a
canon sd550 7.1 m/pixel digital camera. If a large image that would not display
a thumbnail is cropped in gimp so its size is 3 MB or smaller, Nautilus will
display a thumbnail. If the image is cropped and is 3.1 MB or larger, Nautilus
will not display a thumbnail. This behavior is seen in Hoary k7 and is also
seen in Breezy AMD64 live CD latest release (4).
