Thanks for the logs. hal does not recognize the device as tablet and does not
set the "input.tablet" capability. It does not even set the "input" capability.

The root cause is that hal cannot read /dev/input/* since it does not have root
permissions. It would be possible to allow hal to detect these.

Can you please try out something? I will attach an udev patch. Please download
it and do

  sudo patch /etc/udev/permissions.rules udev.16616.patch

Then reboot your computer and try again. Please tell me if it works then. If
not, please send me an updated lshal.txt, we can relax the device permissions a
bit more if necessary. For me this quite conservative setting (hal can only read
the devices, not write to them) works well and should be reasonably safe.
