Thanks for your suggestions on this. Yes, you are right, many people consider
this a feature. The changes your ask for require more discussion and should
rather be done on an appropriate mailing list or forum.
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/community/forums/document_view might be a good start.
I close the bug report, because this should be discussed beforehand.
