The problem is the following. I have an external USB harddrive, which has two
partitions FAT32+NTFS. When plugged in only the NTFS gets automounted. The
output of sudo fdisk -l

Disk /dev/hda: 60.0 GB, 60011642880 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7296 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1   *           1        4150    33334843+   7  HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda2            4240        5777    12353985   83  Linux
/dev/hda3            4151        4239      714892+  82  Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/hda4            5778        7296    12201367+   f  W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hda5            5778        7296    12201336   83  Linux

Partition table entries are not in disk order

Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1               1        3160    25382668+   b  W95 FAT32
/dev/sda2            3161        9729    52765461    7  HPFS/NTFS

The external disk is the /dev/sda. I am able to mount it manually.
