Summary: Recording failed, cd trashed
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: serpentine
AssignedTo: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: dan at ivixor.net
QAContact: cogumbreiro at users.sf.net
Just tried to use serpentine on ubunty breezy badger.
Nice gui, but it doesn't work for me :(
I get errors like this:
GST_ERROR? Progress > 1: 123605360.0
GST_ERROR? Progress > 1: 123605360.0
GST_ERROR? Progress > 1: 97662320.0
Then the progress bar flickers back and forth a bit, then it gives me the error "
Writing to disc failed The writing operation as started so the disc might be
unusable."
I don't mean to rant, but I don't understand how this is possible.
For several years now I have been using a simple 20-line script I created to
create audio cd's. I won't paste it all but it basically does:
mpg123 --cdr - "$I" | cdrecord speed=4 -dev=ATAPI:/dev/hdc -audio -pad -nofix -
and
ogg123 -d au -f - "$I" | cdrecord speed=4 -dev=ATAPI:/dev/hdc -audio -pad -nofix -
and finally:
cdrecord -dev=ATAPI:/dev/hdc -fix
Now, this incredibly simple script works for the two most common formats, and
works (albeit slowly) every time. Also, it doesn't have to copy the mp3's
anywhere, or make wav files. If there is an error, it (cdrecord) says what
happened. How 5000 lines of python can not only fail to work, but then fail to
output any problem-solving data, is a mystery to me.
Oops, I did rant a bit. Sorry :) Of course, I know, if I can come up with
something better, then I should. But someone's priorities are mixed-up here.
