           Summary: gedit crashes with assertion failure
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: gedit
        AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: eamonn.sullivan at gmail.com
         QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

I'm suddenly unable to run gedit. I've uninstalled all but the codecs and vlc
from multiverse/universe, but it's still happening. I need help tracking this
down. From the shell prompt, the error is:

** (gedit:9636): CRITICAL **: str_end_truncate: assertion `string != NULL' failed
