I have an almost identical problem (5.10rc2) but it is reversed...

I have no authority to sudo anything graphical (gdm) but after deleting
~/.Xauthority and killing the X-Server, (message says .Xauthority file created)
I can startx and perform anything I like, including sudo with nopasswd: option...

It appears that gdm is changing permissions (default new file is owner and group
ME only) on startup, so upon my next X session, the problem is there again...

Anybody else seeing this behaviour???
