There are many reasons. *

But more importantly you have already diverted from upstream by getting rid of
the wizard/assisant dialogs on first startup without my even needing to request
it. I was so pleased by that decision I was hoping you would continue to give
additional thought to ideas the gimp developers had previously rejected becuase
they prefer to keep most things the way they have been.

By turning rulers off by default there is a small discoverability penatly for
Rulers and Guides but I think it makes things looks significantly cleaner and is
a much more efficient use of screen real estate (as I have previously stated).

* I could go into many reasons but for now I'll simply give one example of a
feature you might consider. There are things like non-official gimp plugins
Ubuntu could consider, for example is "Davids Batch Processor (DBP)" a C++
plugin that make batch processing easier, providing a graphical front end to
help automate certain tasks.
The gimp developers are unpaid volunteers with limited resources so they try and
keep down the amount of tools and plugins they need to maintain, and they would
avoid the complications of having some plugins in C++ (on top of the existing
work in C, Python, Perl, and Scheme they have to support).
There are other ideas like GimpShop that aims to make the gimp easier to learn
for people already familiar with Adobe Photoshop, which might be worth
considering to help differentiate what Ubuntu are offering (the gimp may yet
incorporate some of these ideas but understandably they do not want to upset
their existing users).
Bugzilla is obviously not the best place for dicussion this though so if you
could point me to a more approrpriate place to suggest customisations Ubuntu
might consider making to the GNU Image Manipulation Program please let me know.
