Ubuntu | gdm
Summary: GDM hangs, only mouse cursor moves. Official ATI drivers
installed.
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: gdm
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: isomunkki at jippii.fi
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
I'm using latest official ATI drivers (8.14.13).
Latest GDM installed from Ubuntu's Synaptic (2.6.0.7).
Xorg server version: 6.8.2
Gnome version: 2.10.0
Ubuntu: 5.04 Hoary
Problem:
Automaticly started GDM locks up after 15 min of use (the time might vary). You
can still move your mouse but you can't click on anything or use your keyboard.
You can't even jump to virtual terminals (CTRL+ALT+Fx). Xorg server process
takes 80-99% of CPU resources when GDM locks up.
>From second machine you can log in by using SSH and manually stop GDM service
which recoveres the computer. If you stop GDM on boot with command "sudo
/etc/init.d/gdm stop" and start Xorg server with "startx" your Gnome session
works perfectly.
