Ubuntu | nautilus
Summary: Accessing an SMB share doesn't open the gnome-keyring
passphrase dialog
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: nautilus
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: mjordan-ubuntu at code-fu.de
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
I have icons of 3 SMB shares on my desktop and the credentials needed to access
the shares are stored in gnome-keyring-daemon.
The expected use path is the following: I click on an SMB share icon. Nautilus
opens a new window and provokes the gnome-keyring-daemon to open its passphrase
dialog (gnome-keyring-ask). I enter the master passphrase to unlock the
credentials, nautilus connects to the share and updates the window to reflect
the files found at the remote location. When the passphrase dialog opens, it
usually opens twice (but not always). (This particular issue is already taken
care of in bug #9933.)
This works sometimes but by far not in all cases. I never actually counted it
but my feeling suggests it is best at 50-50 if not 40-60 success/failure ratio.
In the cases when it fails the following happens:
I click on an SMB share icon. Nautilus opens a new window. The mouse pointer
stays in the "I'm totally busy" state ... like forever. No interaction with the
empty nautilus window or with any other nautilus window is possible (the menu
e.g. does not respond, the windows don't redraw and the desktop does not handle
clicks on icons). The program "gnome-keyring-ask" is not running, according to
ps ax. All I can do is close the nautilus window (e.g. by pressing the X button
on the upper right corner) which more or less kills nautilus completely and
causes it to restart, including a re-paint of the desktop background and all
desktop icons. This behaviour is likely to repeat if I click on the same icon
again. I feel that I get a better chance to actually see the passphrase dialog
when I try and click on a different SMB share icon - but sometimes this fails, too.
