------- Additional Comments From michael at endbracket.net 2005-07-28 13:51 UTC -------
gnome-menu-spec-test's output wasn't helpful, but strace'ing it showed it was
reading ~/.local/applications, a directory I didn't know existed until now.

I discovered a file ~/.local/applications/rhythmbox.desktop which included the
directive NoDisplay=true. After removing this file, gnome-menu-spec-test shows
an entry for Rhythmbox.

What is weird is:
- this file was last modified 2004-12-31
- it's only become hidden since the last Breezy update (about 2005-07-20)
- I've been running Ubuntu since 2004-10
- I don't remember creating this file

Thanks for helping me discover the reason for it not appearing on my system, but
I'd be very interested to find out how my own customization occurred!
