Sorry, I'm reopening this because the problem wasn't solved, although I've moved
the bug to libwnck since that seems to be where the problem lies.  I still get
the relocation error regarding malloc.  Here's a new theory:  The only line in
libwnck that uses any sort of malloc (g_malloc0) is line 407 of
window-action-menu.c.  This made me think that maybe the symbols in libwnck need
to be updated with a recompile.  The last time libwnck was updated (according to
the changelog) was June 8.  Since then, glib and libc6 have had a number of
changes to them.  Perhaps this could have affected symbols in libraries.  This
may be why the only solution that works for me is to apt-get the source for
libwnck and rebuild it.
