Summary: Reaping gdm after 5 minutes leaves desktop locked.
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: gdm
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: ralph at inputplus.co.uk
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
gdm-2.6.0.7 in Ubuntu 5.04 seems to quit after five minutes if started
due to `Applications -> System Tools -> New Login' if there's been no
activity on the login screen.
This is unfortunate since we have the following scenario here.
I'm about to leave the machine for an hour so I do a `New Login'
thus freeing up the machine.
Colleague comes along to use free machine but because time's passed
finds it's asking for my password to unlock my virtual terminal.
Given they don't know my password, and Ctrl-Shift-F8 takes them to a
vt with no X server or gdmgreeter the machine's out of action until
my return.
I think it's FlexiReapDelayMinutes that's the appropriate configuration
value. The default of `5' seems flawed. Why not have no timeout,
otherwise the machine ends up in this tricky state for most users since
they won't switch to a text login and start X from there.
Coupled with bug #3649, which I think should have a `security' keyword,
the visiting colleague ends up with my unlocked desktop.
