I have the same problem in Dapper.  All I can add is that if you select
File/Close instead of File/Quit, then Rhythmbox does close to the system tray as
normal.  However, both the close button, and the File/Quit option cause
Rhythmbox to crash, leaving one (in my case only one, not two) sleeping process.
 When I end the process, my terminal shows this :

** (rhythmbox:17204): WARNING **: nautilus_burn_drive_free is deprecated please
use nautilus_burn_drive_unref() instead
*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x0829b490 ***
Terminated

I've tried removing my .gnome2/rhythmbox directory but this has no effect on the
bug.
