OK, I found it. For anyone elses's edification who might need this info, here
is how you do it. Open a nautilus browser window (places>home for example will
work). Then click on edit>preferences. Click the preview tab and under Other
previewable files set the drop down next to "Only for files smaller than:" to
the size you want. It takes effect immediately. When I looked in the
configuration editor, it makes the change there as well. For example, I set 10
meg for the thumbnail size in browser preferences and the setting in
configuration editor changed to 10485760.
My thanks to Sebastien Bacher for the clue I needed to find the easier way to do
this.
