Given that crashing shouldn't happen, and crashing does happen, I'd say "yes,
it's a bug" :P

My crash happened through mounting /home over NFS, and some of the groups on the
server weren't mirrored on the client. I'd assume that a more common thing to do
than random config file changes, but config file editing just happens to be an
easy way to demonstrate the problem...
