Here is the result of mount without ipod mounted (this is the situation after a
fresh reboot)

/dev/hda3 on / type ext3 (rw,errors=remount-ro)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
usbfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw)
tmpfs on /lib/modules/2.6.12-6-686-smp/volatile type tmpfs (rw)
/dev/hda1 on /boot type ext2 (rw)
/dev/hdb1 on /home type ext3 (rw,user_xattr)
tmpfs on /dev type tmpfs (rw,size=10M,mode=0755)
none on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw)

If I unlug and replug my ipod /dev/sda2 gets auto mounted and here is the result
of mount:
/dev/hda3 on / type ext3 (rw,errors=remount-ro)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
usbfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw)
tmpfs on /lib/modules/2.6.12-6-686-smp/volatile type tmpfs (rw)
/dev/hda1 on /boot type ext2 (rw)
/dev/hdb1 on /home type ext3 (rw,user_xattr)
tmpfs on /dev type tmpfs (rw,size=10M,mode=0755)
none on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw)
/dev/sdb2 on /media/ipod type vfat
(rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,quiet,shortname=winnt,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=077,iocharset=utf8)

I also get an error box: Couldn't find
"/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_42FE_015C"
and nautilus opens my home directory instead of ipod root.
