I should add that the segfault is NOT exactly like the one that prompted me
to submit this report.  What originally happened is that I filled in a 
spreadsheet and tried to save it.  In the Save As dialog I tried to
"browse" to the "doc" subdirectory of "Home" and the program crashed.
When running under gdb the program crashes much sooner than that.
