Ubuntu | epiphany-browser
Summary: Epiphany's SSL support breaks after Mozilla update in
Warty
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: epiphany-browser
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: mathias.debelder at gmail.com
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
CC: mathias.debelder at gmail.com
System: ubuntu warty (4.10)
Package affected: epiphany-browser (1.4.4-0ubuntu2.1) (security update USN-155-2)
After security update usn-155-1
(https://www.ubuntulinux.org/support/documentation/usn/usn-155-1), which updates
Mozilla to version 1.7.10 and security update USN-155-2
(https://www.ubuntulinux.org/support/documentation/usn/usn-155-2), which is a
rebuild of Epiphany against the updated Mozilla sources, Epiphany fails to
handle websites with an _invalid_ SSL certificate. Websites which have a valid
certificate do work.
For example, when visiting the URL https://qhosting.be:8443/ or
https://www.technicalinformation.fiat.com/, both of which point to a webserver
with an invalid (configured) SSL certificate, Epiphany shows a XUL-like popup
informing the user the certificate is invalid. However, none of the controls on
this popup have any effect whatsoever, making it impossible to either accept the
certificate temporarely or ignore it forever. The only option is closing this
popup window, but this cancels loading the page. Because of this, it is
impossible to browse to any webpage with an invalid SSL certificate. Opening
websites with invalid certificates does work however in both Mozilla and
Firefox, as the controls on their popup windows do work.
Expected results: the popup that informs the user about security problems with
an SSL certificate should work in Epiphany after the Mozilla update to 1.7.10,
and not block the user completely from visiting the website.
