Summary: evil breezy unmounting action due to async filesystem
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: other
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: nautilus
        AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: desrt at desrt.ca
         QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

When I plug in my vorbis player:

/dev/sdb1 on /media/IAUDIO type vfat

I seem to remember that hoary used to mount vfat volumes sync. jdub told me
that there's no such thing as 'sync' for vfat filesystems, so I'm not sure if
that's the problem.

Either way, behaviour on unmount is much worse on breezy than it was on hoary.
With hoary the data would be written to the volume fairly quickly within
requesting an unmount and with breezy it takes an awful long time (sometimes

This is bad since I have no way of knowing when it's safe to unplug the device
without looking at /proc/mounts or typing 'sync' into a terminal and waiting.
This will be a nightmare for people in my family, at least, since they are all
heavy users of their mp3 players. I'm not looking forward to having to explain
this to them.

Request: either make it so that reads/writes to removeable devices are done
synchronously or give some sort of user feedback on unmount about when it's safe
to unplug a device.
