In 2.3.6.1-0ubuntu1 IMAP folders worked, 2.3.6.1-0ubuntu2 (which said it fixed
it) broke it again.

Statusbar says :
Scanning folders in "IMAP server server.mail.domain" (...)

and the first entry in the folder list(left side) says Loading...

The IMAP server is an Exchange 2003

I have also tried with a new user account.
