I mean, is this really a debatable topic?  The last thing you want to do 
is silently break somebody's scripts with an update.  It's not hard to 
just pass the parameter for new scripts and usage stuff.  If you are 
feeling frisky and the param offends then the patch could add some kind 
of persistent setting for it too.

I think it should have been relative paths from the beginning, but it 
wasn't, and it's such a minor thing to add that it's not worth breaking 
anybody's stuff over it.

bzr's got enough trouble without pissing off existing users.
