I don't particularly care about git, but I'd be happy to contribute to
such a fork (for what it's worth, the reason I never contributed code to
Bazaar and related plugins so far is the CLA; I'm not saying I'd have
contributed much, but it effectively acted as a deterrent for me).

  However, I'd like to be sure that it's not going to be just a better
UI for Git, but there won't be regressions in functionality due to
changing the default storage format.  In particular, I'm quite attached
to my lightweight checkouts *and* my bound branches (or however they're
called these days), and to "real" renames (and Git is easy to break in
that respect).

  If I'm worrying unduly over these concerns, then count me in (or at
least, I'll respectfully apply as a contributor :-)
