You may be interested to know that Jeff Forcier (maintainer of Fabric, which 
heavilly relies on paramiko) started discussion about handover with Paramiko's 
current maintainer.  This hasn't gotten far (yet anyways) but they already 
started a fork under the name 'ssh' [1] and released two versions with various 
bugfixes.

I've asked Jeff and he plans to support it long-term (giving priority to 
Fabric's needs) and is happy to accept patches (Fab-related or not).

IMHO it would make sense to collaborate given that paramiko is important to 
both projects.  Let me know if you are interested and what you would need, or 
you can contact Jeff directly via e.g. Fabric mailing list (fab-
user at nongnu.org) or the project's github page [2].  I'll check with Jeff about 
the details as well.
