bzr branch leads to empty folder

As you know, this is a common gotcha.
I wonder if we can make it more discoverable like writing a special
non-hidded file
when we create a treeless branch eg. bazaar-treeless-branch.txt
which contains some info about what is going on.
When you do actually do a checkout, this file should be deleted.
