Nowadays I don't see the necessity anymore to split up my Latex projects
into parts. I use one large latex file for the text and keep it under
bzr in just one directory, together with helper files such as
.bzrignore, Makefile and scripts from the vc latex bundle

  http://www.ctan.org/pkg/vc

There are editors out there that deal well with large Latex files if
they are properly structured.
