I think that GitHub feels "lighter" because it is branch- and hacker-oriented
rather than project-oriented like LP.  In comparison, LP has a lot of conceptual
overhead.

More generally, GitHub feels like it was designed for sharing code while LP
feels like it was designed for managing open-source projects.
