Commit extremely slow

I've been using bazaar for a while now with no problems. However, I've
started using it with a bigger project, about 1GB in size. The repo is
bound and every time I commit it take hours, without exaggerating. The
problem is when it's repacking texts x/3326. Last night I left my computer
on so it can finish the commit and 2 hours later it was still not done.
This is completely unacceptable and unusable. Am I doing something wrong
that it takes so long? Should I do a local commit first than push it to the
shared repo somehow? What can I do to make a commit take something normal
like 5 minutes? Thanks for your help.
