I don't disagree.  Some might claim that the web itself is a hack codified
in RFCs.  I would not disagree with them, either.  Your prospects would seem
to lie which whichever group -- the core bzr developers, or the server
administrators -- is more amenable to your persuasion.  Come to think of it,
it might seem reasonable to hope that the bzr smart sever would implement
what you need.
