Ouch.  If you run bzr branch log+sftp://... it will record a trace
into ~/.bzr.log and describing the kind of operations it's doing there
(what operation, what filename) will help.  You could just post the
log into a bug  - the filenames themselves should not have any
personal or confidential information.

It would also be useful to check the repository is in 2a format (run
'bzr info'.)
