Smart server performance (bzr+http)

I've finally managed to get Bazaar and IIS to play nicely. I sure wish
SSH the standard in Windows-land that it is in *nix land. :)

Now I'm trying to convince myself that it was worth it. In my limited
testing, it seems that straight file:// access beats bzr+http:// access
hands down. So far I've only tried `bzr log` and `bzr branches`.

I've searched the Bazaar documentation and this list's history, but I
can't find any information about which operations are better/worse using
the smart server.

Is file:// preferred in a LAN environment?
