Launchpad push with insane network download

I'm trying to push a bazaar branch of one revision on top of a change
from a hundred revisions ago to launchpad, and getting ridiculous
network behaviour. Am I doing something wrong, or is there an open bug
on this already?

Branched my local bzr.dev at r5010.2.2 to a new dir with the same
shared repo. Made one line change, committed, and tried to push, at
which point bazaar started to download hundreds of megabytes, very
slowly.
