For starters, upgrading to the latest version would probably help. The
bugs you linked all seem to point to very old versions of bzr (1.11, etc.)

The xmlrpc fix is in the 2.1 series. Vincent would probably know more
about our proxy support. The only specific thing I've seen is that you
may want to use "http://proxy.com:port" rather than just "proxy.com:port".
