Stephen,

That was exactly my point, the Boost licence is the way it is because of
the source-only nature of much of the content of the Boost library.  I
couldn't understand why the GPL was being mentioned in the role of
"bogeyman".

I too am not a lawyer, but in general the issues of licences are fairly
well understood.  Clearly the dark corner cases are where the lawyers
make lots and lots of money.
