Ian, I will be skeptical today.

Just yesterday I've tried to review translations of Bazaar Explorer to
Russian. There is all strings translated now, but the quality of some
translations is less that I'd like to see.

I personally constantly trying to find the good variants for translation
and every time this is hard. There is many terms which is just dead hard
to translate adequately. Just because English is very compact and
computer science language, and because there is no common practice to
translate DVCS specific terma to Russian, and in addition Bazaar invents
new terms: like bound branches et al. I can list you long list of hard
terms. Does your new list help me somehow in my translator work?

Will be there enough native English speakers with infinite amount of
patience to answer question from translators: how we can translate XXX
and YYY to our language? Native English speakers required because for
good translation the person who doing translations need to have more
context, examples of usage and most important (at least for me) the list
of synonyms or suggestions how the same can be expressed in another
language.

Just for fun, how do you translate "push" as bzr command?

I'm still unable to translate it. And many ru people as I know just
using calque and use original word "push" as jargon.

And I can moan about this all day.

Just to provide you more info, here is quote from
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/rosetta/+question/91575/+confirm?answer_id=0

"In general, though, if you are concerned with the quality rather than
the quantity of translations, you should consider not using Open
permissions, but rather Structured or Restricted, assigned to a trusted
translations group (e.g. launchpad-translators)."

Is it official Launchpad/Ubuntu policy?

Does these official translators understand DVCS terms better than
experienced users like me? (And note that I'm using bzr almost from the
earliest days).

We have a glossary page in our ru_bzr group:
http://groups.google.com/group/ru_bzr/web/%D0%B3%D0%BB%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%81%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%B9?hl=ru

This is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER for every translator IMO. Always
should be canonical glossary with the variants how to translate terms,
so all translations around bzr ecosystem (docs, GUI l10n, CLI l10n) will
use *the same words*.

Unfortunately the LP does not have a way to specify Glossaries. This is
big misfeature IMO.

(All I said is IMO IMO IMO based on my attempts since 2006.)
