New message with bzr.dev

I have just started getting messages such as:

        Tree is up to date at revision 1507.
        /home/Checkouts/Bazaar/Bazaar/Mainline_Mirror/bzrlib/osutils.py:928: UserWarning: bzr: warning: Failed to load compiled extensions:
            No module named _chunks_to_lines_pyx
            cannot import name _btree_serializer_pyx

            No module named _chk_map_pyx
            No module named _annotator_pyx
            No module named _knit_load_data_pyx

            Bazaar can run, but performance may be reduced.
            Check Bazaar is correctly installed or set ignore_missing_extensions

I am assuming this is expected.

I am running bzr.dev straight out of the box, which would seem to imply
I now need to either run some form of in-branch initialization or just
set the variable as stated -- though it would be good to know where to
set the variable.

I do not want to install bzr.dev, I want to run it out of the branch so
that the only installed Bazaar is the latest officially released deb
from the PPA.
