Shared repositories and not having working trees

I guess I just haven't found the right bit of TFM to be able to
RTFM . . .
When creating a new shared repository the --no-trees option is available
so that branches don't have working tress by default. Is there a way of
setting that after creating one without having provided the option?
So I did an init-repo but forgot the --no-trees option, and it is now
too late to start again, but I really would prefer to have no working
trees.
Thanks.
PS Is there a way of deciding when to use this mail list and when to
use Launchpad Answers for this sort of question?
