I'll add the 'how to install' material.
The download links are currently maintained in the Wiki page. I can see
the value of having them (and similar information) in this Guide. So I'm
not against it but I'd like some longer term plan or tools in place
first so we're only managing the data in one place.

I think so. IMO, it's really up to each plugin to document those in the
plugin summary.
