most authoritative branch for bzr dev?

The page http://bazaar-vcs.org/Download is features prominently in a Google
search for 'bzr' and (below the list of packages) directs visitors to

bzr branch http://bazaar-vcs.org/bzr/bzr.dev and I am using this for a while
to watch development.

The content of this branch appears to be kept in sync with lp:bzr  (
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~bzr/bzr/trunk/ )

Is there a reason the website does not point to lp ?  Is one branch more
authoritative that the other ?
