I was trying to write some tests that check that the generic
"StreamSource" object can read and write to all formats. As part of
fixing bug #387294. I then went to go farther and try to add tests that
we can stream to/from the smart server in similar ways.

I ran into problems because RemoteRepositoryFormat.supports_chks is
always None. What is the correct fix for this? Just turn supports_chks
into a property and have it thunk over to self._custom_format.supports_chks?
