Most useful trick to know, it enables getting updates to plugins --
which is this case is a really good idea!

I have even less idea ;-)

Methinks Jelmer has committed up changes to transport.py that have
circumvented the "trap" that I was getting caught by.  An update of the
bzr-svn plugin (using --no-plugins) has updated to me to a Bazaar
installation without the problem.

Thanks John for chipping in and allowing me to continue, thanks to
Jelmer for quietly getting me out of the fix.
