[MERGE] Hide the transport direction in the progress bar if it is unknown.

I agree, the '?' is the wrong indicator.  An empty space should be
used instead.  Traffic indicators show continued activity and the lack
of direction indicates uncertainty or ambiguity - if we can't be more
specific, we should avoid indicators that might be negatively
misunderstood.
