Can we separate authors with ; instead of \n please?

You could escape the separator character when specified by the author
value, and just unescape that character when converting from internal
representation of the 'authors' attribute to external representation.
Again it seems like the internal format should be completely hidden
from any users (and by 'users', I mean other Python code that wants to
manipulate the 'authors' attribute, as well as humans).
