get_record_stream adapters

I'd like to change the adapter signature to take the source _record_ not
just the bytes, for adaption.

I'd like to do this to allow a slightly richer interface for adapters,
which will make handling knit types coming off the network simpler, but
shouldn't result in a loss of generality.

The only constraint it will add is that the storage-kind should match
the class of the factory.
