Not directly related to this, but I'm always rather bothered at how -v
is a unstructured "we sometimes want to show more info, so stick it
under -v" splattered across random commands. This is made doubly
unpleasant since -v is a global option, so the only thing that ever
shows up in help about it is "Display more information." Even on
commands where it doesn't DO anything. There's no indication about
what information it shows, if it shows any, or why you'd want it.
