There are two explanations for that, I'm not sure which is most valid :-) :

 * git-svn has a similar command "git svn dcommit", which pushes into
   Subversion but does not preserve all metadata so changes the identity
   of the revision

 * dpush can be thought of as pushing the deltas (as opposed to the actual
   revisions) into a foreign vcs

I'm open to suggestions for better names.
