FWIW, the reason I'm a bit reluctant about registering new projects in
Launchpad because there's no way to delete projects (other than, as last
resort, contacting LP staff). 

I can can certainly see the point in keeping code around for historical
interest, but perhaps it should be possible to change the status of a
complete project to e.g. "Abandoned", so users can be warned
appropriately and the project could be e.g. sorted on the bottom of the
search results when doing searches, etc.
